This is your chance to hunt Canadian Moose in British Columbia’s Cariboo Mountains with one of Canada’s most experienced guides. With over 42 years of experience guiding in the area, this is the outfitter that can put you on the black bear of a lifetime!

This is wilderness hunting at its finest! I can only describe the area as stunning. With snow-capped mountains, rushing rivers, alpine meadows and lakes, this region has it all. Personally, it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever hunted. Tremendous amounts of bears, lots of moose and great accommodations and food. If you have the means and the time to get here, you will not regret it. It is like hunting in a painting!

Canadian Moose Hunting

Canadian Moose are found in abundance in this area. The 7-day hunts will primarily be based out of a lodge or a cabin. You will have a comfortable bed and tasty food. The 10-day hunts can either be from a lodge setting or can be done as horseback hunts riding deep into the wilderness to reach unpressured trophy animals.

Crossing a river on horseback in British Columbia

Due to the many geographical differences in terrain, the outfitter hunts utilizing a variety of methods. Your hunt could include any of the following: gliding by canoe or boat down a river during the early morning or evening: watching from a stand overlooking meadows or small lakes: foot hunting: using well-trained mountain horses for hunting (10-day minimum) for getting into and out of otherwise inaccessible areas: or traveling by vehicle in the accessible portion of their hunting area. They take into consideration requests made by the clients regarding which hunting method they prefer.

The success rates on these rifle hunts average around 70%. Bow hunts average around 50%. Success rates depend on many factors including the shape you are in, your ability to ride a horse (for horseback hunts), your shooting skills, the weather and of course lady luck. The outfitter will make every effort to make your hunt a success, but all of these factors can play a part.

On a typical day’s hunt, you will eat breakfast and depart shortly afterward to begin looking for moose. You may pack a lunch depending on the method and duration of the day’s hunt. You can expect shots to range from 50 yards all the way up to 350 yards. Typical shots are from 100 – 250 yds.

Canadian Moose Hunting Season

The moose season is from September 10 – November 15.

The outfitter can take up to 12 people.

This hunt books out early, so if you are thinking about hunting moose here, you should book it as soon as possible!

The Caribou Mountain Region

This outfitter has the exclusive guiding rights to 3,500 square miles of prime big game country bordering Wells Gray Provincial Park and the Cariboo Mountains. The terrain varies from slow meandering rivers where the great chinook salmon spawn to lofty alpine meadows and mountains reaching more than 10,000 feet. Approximately one-half of this area is roadless wilderness, while the remainder has logging road access to his camps and hot spots for bear moose, and deer.

The outfitter has a wide variety of big game species to hunt within his territory. Silver-tipped grizzlies inhabit much of our rugged mountainous terrain but currently cannot be hunted. Black bears in various color phases are plentiful throughout the area. The average black bear here squares over 6 feet, with many going over 7 feet. Wolves are plentiful as well and can be taken on all his hunts, or as a hunt unto themselves. Canadian moose are widespread throughout this territory, with trophies taken each year in the 40" to 55" category. The mountain goats here are second to none, with record book billies taken annually. The region has become well known for its massive mature mule deer but, as in many areas, in recent years have declined in population. Many record book cats also come out of the Cariboo and our largest cougar taken ranks # 4 in the world.

This area has a good population of grizzly bears and there is always the chance that you will see one of these majestic bears while hunting moose.

The Canadian Moose Hunting Lodge

Most hunts are conducted from the outfitter’s base camp. The outfitter has a home/lodge set on a scenic river with comfortable client bedrooms, clean bathrooms, and excellent food. Additionally, the outfitter has a series of lodges/cabins placed throughout the area. Some of these cabins are lakefront and offer outstanding fishing and views.

Proper fitting boots suitable for hiking and climbing in the mountains are important for this hunt. Kennetrek’s uninsulated mountain boots are perfect fits for this hunt! Their new Corrie 3.2 Hikers would also be a good boot for this hunt. Just be sure to bring a pair of boots that are broken in to prevent foot problems. A good rainsuit is also necessary to ward off any sudden showers that may occur during this time of year.

The Canadian Moose Hunting Outfitter

This outfitter has been hunting, fishing, and running traplines in this region for his whole life. He has continuously outfitted in this area for 42 years and over time, has accumulated many great exclusive hunting areas from other outfitters’ retirements. His hunting areas now cover over 4,000 sq miles of game-filled wilderness habitat. He maintains over 200 miles of trail, allowing for horse access into remote areas that receive little hunting pressure.

Due to the high density of black bears in the region, this is a great area to harvest a black bear. Due to the bear density, you will see lots of bears and it is only a matter of time until you spot one that deserves a spot in your trophy room!
