This is a heck of a deal on a discounted Red Stag and Tahr Combo hunting package on New Zealand’s South Island. This hunt is offered by one of New Zealand’s top outfitters and the hunting here is fabulous.  I took my first hunt in New Zealand back in 2012 and had a great hunt! This hunt offers a much bigger than usual red stag at this price point and the Himalayan tahr hunting is as good as it gets.  The price of the helicopter is not included in this hunt.

The Tahr and Red Stag Hunting Area

This hunt for tahr and a red stag will take place on New Zealand’s South Island near Nelson.  With an abundance of animals, spectacular scenery and a comfortable lodge with cuisine that just has to be experienced, this setting will make your hunt an unforgettable trip of a lifetime!

The Tahr and Red Stag Hunting

Your hunt for a red stag will occur on this outfitter’s private property which offers a wide variety of trophy red stags. A red stag is included in this package up to 420”, but if you decide to upgrade, a wide variety of stags are available up into the 500”+ range.  Each year some incredible stags are harvested on this outfitter’s properties. Seeing a fully-mature massive red stag rise up from seemingly nowhere will surely make your heart flutter. I know it did that to mine!

The best time to hunt Red Stag on the South Island is the roar, which is May - July. The red stag roar is earlier, but the Tahr still have their summer coats at that time.

You will experience the best foot hunting for bull Himalayan tahr in all of New Zealand. No helicopter is required and all hunting for tahr will be conducted on public land. The hunt may also be conducted on private land. The herds are basically the same and come and go through certain openings in the fence. So you can experience the tahr hunting as you wish to.  This will ensure that you have the best alpine hunting experience possible with plenty of time to look over multiple bulls to allow you to select the best trophy possible.  While the hunt is quite physical, obtaining a quality tahr is achievable for most people. This outfitter has successfully guided clients of all ages and abilities to a trophy bull tahr of a lifetime.

The best trophy hunting for tahr is from May (the rut) until July when the capes are at their best.

Other animals including elk, fallow buck and Arapawa rams, and feral goats are also available on this hunt.  Sika, rusa, and sambar deer are available but will require a trip to the North Island.

The New Zealand Hunting Lodge

Your red stag and tahr hunt will utilize a 3-star lodge that also serves as the outfitter's home.  The scenery is stunning and Stag can often be observed feeding on the hillside by just walking outside the lodge. The lodge features permanent power and has 3 luxury bedrooms with two beds each. The bedrooms feature en-suite bathrooms.  Internet service is available at the lodge. The food is first class and you will enjoy some of New Zealand’s finest cuisine and wines while on this hunt.
