Spanish Ibex Grand Slam Itinerary

Your trip will normally start in Madrid, where your hunting guide will pick you up. He will assist you at the airport with your luggage and firearms clearance before you begin the drive to the first hunting area.

Depending on the time of the season in which you are hunting, you may start with the two southern trophies (Southeastern and Ronda ibex) or the two nortern ones (Gredos and Becite ibex). As a rule, early in the season, you will begin with the two southern ibex, while from mid-season you will start with the two northern subspecies. However, this schedule may vary depending on the availability of the outfitter's schedule or the hunter's schedule.

Each ibex hunt requires three days, for a total of 12 hunting days. Arrival and departure days are in addition to these, making it a 14-day trip overall. Each ibex subspecies inhabits a different region, so travel between hunting areas is necessary. These transfers are made by car on excellent highways, ensuring a smooth and comfortable journey in your guide's vehicle. Driving times may range from 2 to 6 hours, depending on your destination.

Throughout the trip, the outfitter uses high-quality hotels, all located close to the hunting areas (only 15-45 minutes away). These are typically small, charming properties that offer comfortable accommodations as waell as excellent restaurants where you can enjoy the rich local cuisine.

Your trip will conclude in Madrid, where you will likely spend your final night before your international flight home.

The Ibex Grand Slam Hunting Areas

All 4 sub-species of Spanish ibex are found in separate mountainous areas of Spain.

Ibex Hunting Area Map

The hunting areas cover a vast area comprised of mountains, cliffs, and deep creeks, but there is a good grid of dirt roads over most of the hunting grounds. A vehicle will provide convenient access to the prime hunting areas.

The Spanish Ibex Grand Slam Hunting Methods

Hunting the four sub-species of Spanish ibex is a spectacular mountain hunt where the hunter covers ground by vehicle and on foot. The vehicle will provide access to various areas where you will get out of the vehicle and glass for a trophy ibex.  A typical hunting day will begin by driving up into the mountains and then getting out and glassing for the species of Ibex that you are targeting that day. The terrain is very mountainous, and this hunt will require some walking and even more glassing.  Once a trophy ibex is located, a plan will be made to get you within a shooting position for your ibex on foot.  Due to the mountainous terrain, you can expect to take shots of up to 300 yards.

Trophy Beceite Ibex

Hunting the Spanish ibex slam in Spain can be challenging, especially when looking for gold medal-level Ibex. To hunt for trophies, you must be prepared and ready to walk in the mountains for significant distances. However, the hunting area is very diverse, and the outfitter can accommodate hunters who are not in good physical condition if they have good shooting skills.

The Spanish Ibex Hunting Slam Hotels

During your Spanish ibex grand slam hunt, you will stay in a collection of beautiful small 4 and 5-star hotels set in spectacular settings near the various hunting areas. The lodges have permanent power, and all bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms.  Internet and cell phone service is available at the hotels. The food and wine that you will eat and drink will be some of Spain’s finest!
