This high-fence Blackbuck hunt takes place near Comstock in the rugged and scenic landscape of West Texas. The package includes three full hunting days, experienced 1×1 guiding, comfortable 3-star lodge accommodations, and the trophy fee for one Blackbuck buck measuring between 15" and 21" around the curl. Hunters interested in larger trophies have the opportunity to upgrade to additional horn-size categories according to the outfitter's established pricing.

The hunt is conducted on a privately managed ranch with a diverse combination of open grasslands, rolling terrain, brush-covered areas, and wooded draws. Blackbuck are pursued primarily from strategically positioned hunting blinds overlooking feeders and areas of regular animal movement. Your guide will stay with you throughout the hunt, helping evaluate individual bucks and identify an appropriate trophy according to the selected package.

About the Blackbuck

Blackbuck are one of the most recognizable exotic antelope species found in Texas. Originally native to the open grasslands and plains of India and Pakistan, they were among the earlier exotic game species introduced to Texas ranches. Their ability to thrive in warm, relatively dry environments has allowed them to become well established on managed properties throughout the state.

These antelope are smaller and more slender than many of the larger exotic species commonly hunted in Texas. Adults generally weigh approximately 70–125 pounds and possess a lightweight, athletic build designed for speed and agility. Blackbuck are exceptionally fast animals, capable of reaching speeds approaching 55 miles per hour. Their keen eyesight, alert nature, and ability to accelerate quickly make them difficult animals to approach undetected.

Mature males are particularly striking in appearance. As bucks develop, their upper bodies and necks darken from brown to a deep chocolate or nearly black coloration, creating a sharp contrast with the bright white underparts, facial markings, and inner legs. This coloration can become especially pronounced during the cooler months. Females are generally lighter tan or fawn-colored and usually do not develop the prominent horns carried by males.

The horns are the defining feature of a mature trophy Blackbuck. Rather than sweeping backward or outward like those of many other antelope, Blackbuck horns rise from the head in a distinctive spiral pattern. Mature males commonly develop three to five twists, with the length, shape, symmetry, and overall appearance contributing to the quality of the trophy. Horns measuring 18" or more are generally considered trophy-class animals, although this ranch offers several established categories extending well beyond that size.

Male Blackbuck are also highly territorial. Mature bucks often establish and defend areas within open grasslands or along the edges of brush, where they watch over females and attempt to keep competing males away. This behavior, combined with their preference for open country, can make them particularly interesting animals to observe during a hunt. A mature buck may spend considerable time patrolling his territory, watching approaching animals, and reacting to the movements of nearby females or rival males.

Blackbuck also provide excellent table fare. Their meat is generally mild, tender, and flavorful, making them an attractive species for hunters interested in both a distinctive trophy and quality venison.

Blackbuck Trophy Size and Upgrade Pricing

The base package includes one Blackbuck buck measuring 15"–21" around the curl. Hunters may upgrade to a larger trophy according to the following pricing:

• 22"–26": Additional $700 – $5,495 Total

• 27": Additional $1,200 – $5,995 Total

• Over 27": Additional $1,200, Plus $150 for Each Inch Above 27"

For example, a 28" Blackbuck would cost $6,145 total, representing a $1,350 upgrade over the base package.

All Blackbuck are priced according to the measurement of their longest horn, taken around the curl. Your guide will evaluate available animals and help identify a buck appropriate for the trophy category you have selected.

The Blackbuck Hunting Area in West Texas

The hunt takes place on a privately managed, high-fenced ranch near Comstock, Texas. The property features a combination of open grasslands, rolling hills, native brush, wooded draws, and natural cover that provides suitable habitat for Blackbuck and a variety of other game species.

The ranch includes different elevations, vegetation types, and travel corridors, with strategically maintained feeders and water sources throughout the property. The combination of open terrain and thicker cover allows Blackbuck to move between feeding areas, bedding locations, and established territories while providing several productive locations for hunting blinds.

The outfitter has hunted and managed this property for approximately 22 years. Habitat management, supplemental feeding, and access to water help support healthy animal populations and provide hunters with opportunities to observe and select mature animals.

Blackbuck Hunting Methods

A typical hunting day begins with a continental breakfast at the lodge before heading into the field with your guide. The guide will prepare the vehicle and necessary equipment before transporting you to a hunting blind selected according to current animal activity and hunting conditions.

Most Blackbuck hunting on this property is conducted from comfortable blinds overlooking feeders and surrounding areas. Your guide will remain alongside you throughout the hunt, helping locate animals, evaluate individual bucks, and determine whether a particular animal falls within the trophy category you have booked.

As Blackbuck begin moving through the area, the guide will assess horn length, maturity, and overall trophy quality. Because the package is priced according to horn size, hunters can discuss available upgrade opportunities before deciding whether to pursue a particular buck. Once an appropriate animal presents a suitable shot, the guide will assist with preparing the animal for butchering.

Depending on animal movement and weather conditions, the morning hunt may continue until returning to the lodge for a late breakfast or midday break. Lunch is generally served around 2:00 p.m., after which hunters return to the field for the afternoon hunt.

The afternoon is spent observing animal movements and waiting for an appropriate buck to present an opportunity. Following a successful harvest, the guide and ranch staff will assist with recovery and field preparation before returning to the lodge for dinner and relaxation.

The ranch supports strong numbers of Blackbuck, Whitetail Deer, Axis Deer, and Aoudad, with management practices focused on maintaining herd quality and providing consistent hunting opportunities. Each hunter works directly with an experienced guide who assists with trophy evaluation, field preparation, and the overall hunting experience.

The 3-Star West Texas Hunting Lodge

Hunters stay in a comfortable 3-star main lodge featuring permanent electricity, cell phone service, and internet access. The accommodations offer a combination of bunk-style rooms and larger master bedrooms, making the lodge suitable for individual hunters, hunting groups, and observers.

One side of the lodge contains two bunk rooms, each furnished with four bunk beds. These rooms share a newly refurbished bathroom equipped with a shower, toilet, and sink. On the opposite side are two master bedrooms with king-size beds, which share a separate refurbished bathroom.

Meals are included throughout the hunt, with continental breakfast available before heading into the field, and a hot dinner served upon returning to the lodge. During midday breaks, hunters can relax and enjoy ranch activities such as horseshoes, cornhole, swimming, basketball, pool, and other recreational options.

Additional Hunting Opportunities

The ranch offers several additional hunting opportunities, including Whitetail Deer, Axis Deer, Aoudad, Scimitar Oryx, and other exotic game. Hunters interested in adding another species should discuss current availability and trophy fees with the outfitter.

Getting to West Texas

Most hunters will travel to the ranch by personal vehicle or rental car. The nearest major airport is San Antonio International Airport.

Airport pickup and drop-off can be arranged for $300 R/T per vehicle. Upon arrival, the outfitter will welcome hunters, assist with settling into the lodge, and review the hunting schedule.

Once at the ranch, all transportation between the lodge and hunting locations is handled by the guide. Hunters do not need to provide their own transportation during the hunt.

Trophy Handling and Care

Following a successful harvest, the guide will cape and quarter the Blackbuck and place the meat on ice. The ranch will maintain ice for the hunter throughout the remainder of their stay.

If the hunter wishes to retain the cape and head for taxidermy, these will be placed in a freezer until departure. The guide will assist with loading the trophy and meat into the hunter's vehicle when they are ready to leave.

Taxidermy

Taxidermy is not included in the package. The outfitter can recommend a local taxidermist but is not affiliated with the taxidermy operation.

Hunters should arrange for taxidermy, trophy transportation, and shipping separately.

The Hunting Season

This Blackbuck hunt is available year-round.

The Best Time to Hunt

The outfitter recommends October through May as the preferred time to hunt. These cooler months generally provide more comfortable hunting conditions in West Texas and offer excellent opportunities to observe mature Blackbuck.

Recommended Firearms and Rental Rifles

The outfitter recommends a .243 Winchester or larger for Blackbuck hunting. A reliable rifle with a quality scope and suitable hunting ammunition is recommended to ensure accurate shot placement.

Rental rifles are available for $100 total. Ammunition is available for $4 per round.

Texas Hunting License

A valid Texas hunting license is required and is not included in the package price. Hunters should obtain the appropriate license before beginning the hunt.

No-Opportunity Re-Hunt Policy

If no animal is harvested because the hunter receives no reasonable opportunity, such as unsuitable weather conditions, the appropriate trophy class not being encountered, or no animals being seen, the hunter may be offered an opportunity to return for a re-hunt.

Qualifying re-hunts may begin at $595 per hunter to cover lodging and meals.

Deposit Policy

A 50% deposit is required to reserve the hunt. The remaining balance is due directly to the outfitter 30 days before the hunt begins.

Accepted payment methods include cash, check, Zelle, and cashier's check.

Cancellation Policy

Deposits and final payments are non-refundable unless the cancelling hunter provides a replacement hunter.

If the outfitter is required to locate a replacement hunter, a $1,000 rebooking fee, along with any discount necessary to book the replacement hunter, will be deducted from the original client's deposit. Any remaining balance may then be transferred to another hunt date.

EXCLUSIONS: Texas hunting license, San Antonio airport transportation, larger Blackbuck trophy upgrades, rifle rental, ammunition, final-night lodging, taxidermy, trophy transportation and shipping, gratuities, alcoholic beverages, and personal expenses.
