A Sulaiman Markhor hunt in Pakistan is a rare and thrilling adventure for the most extreme mountain hunters. Found in the rugged mountains of the Torghar region in Balochistan, this hunt offers you one of the most desirable trophies in the world from one of the most remote corners of the country. The Sulaiman Markhor, known for its tightly corkscrewed horns and elusive nature, is one of the most impressive and challenging mountain animals you’ll ever pursue.

The landscape here is arid and harsh, made up of rocky ridges, dry riverbeds, and steep escarpments. Elevations aren’t as extreme as in the northern ranges, but the dry, hot climate and the unpredictable terrain demand physical readiness and mental grit. This hunt is a journey into a land few outsiders ever get to see. The Sulaiman Markhor is a symbol of resilience and wild beauty, and bringing one home is a true testament to your mountain hunting legacy.

*The price is this hunt is dependent on how much each tag is auctioned off each year. For this hunt, you will send in your deposit to be held in escrow in the United States. The outfitter will then go to the yearly tag auction on your behalf and bid up to the upper limit price you set. If successful, the balance will be due immediately. If unsuccessful, your deposit will be returned in full to attempt again next year.

The Sulaiman Markhor Hunting Area / Terrain:

The outfitter hunts Sulaiman Markhor in the Torgar region. In this area, you can expect average elevations of 3,000m (10,000 ft) above sea level. These markhors in this area live in relatively high elevations, but are one of the lower dwelling species of markhor in the country. Altitude medication can be used, but it is not a necessity for these elevations.

These hunts will be in the Balochistan region, the largest and most sparsely populated province of Pakistan. The terrain here consists of arid mountains, rocky plateaus, and wide desert valleys, with scattered patches of scrub and hardy vegetation. The landscape is quite harsh and remote, offering a true sense of isolation and raw nature. These unforgiving conditions are the perfect habitat for elusive species like the Sulaiman Markhor, and make any expedition into Balochistan a demanding yet deeply rewarding experience full of incredible natural beauty.

Terrain while hunting for Sulaiman Markhor

Afghan Urial share the same mountainous territory as the Sulaiman Markhor does, so you may see these animals as well. You can package these two hunts together as a combo. If interested, special arrangements can be made to harvest both these trophies on a single hunt.

About The Sulaiman Markhor:

The Sulaiman Markhor (Capra falconeri jerdoni) is a rare subspecies of the markhor, found in the remote, dry mountains of the Torghar region in Balochistan, Pakistan. Also known as the Straight-horned Markhor, it is smaller in body size compared to its northern cousins. Males are easily identified by their impressive, tightly curled corkscrew horns that can reach over 30 inches in length. Their coat is typically short and sleek due to the hot, arid climate, with longer hair forming a mane along the chest and neck, especially in mature males.

These animals are well adapted to their desert-mountain environment, where they nimbly navigate steep cliffs, broken rock outcrops, and dry ravines in search of sparse vegetation. They are quite skittish animals and very wary of movement, making a successful stalk and hunt on them an impressive feat! You can expect your trophy to be around 30”, though with luck and a lot of time in the mountains, it is possible to harvest upwards of a 36” trophy in these areas.

The Sulaiman Markhor Outfitter:

This outfitter has spent his entire life growing up and hunting in these regions, outfitting in Pakistan, and has a thorough understanding of everything, including:

  • Document Preparation
  • Bidding for the best hunting areas
  • Spending time in the field year-round
  • Having contacts in many villages
  • Speaking the local dialects
  • Glowing references

Sulaiman Markhor Travel:

All areas that will be used for hunting are safe areas and are not in regions with insurgent activity. Over a period of many years, the outfitter has conducted these hunts without any safety issues.

Arrival is at Islamabad International Airport (also known as Benazir International). International flights normally arrive after midnight into the early morning hours. You will meet your representative at the international arrivals area, where you will proceed with your firearms clearance.

Once firearms are cleared, you will get on your domestic flight to Quetta, which takes about 2 hours. Once you arrive, you’ll begin your drive to Torgar, where the hunt will be taking place, and stay there.

The next morning, you will meet all your field staff and the local villagers. The local villagers will have been keeping an eye out for trophies for the past couple of months and keep tabs on where the populations are moving to. For the few weeks leading up to your arrival, they'll do their best to get photos of trophies they see and what areas they've been spotted in for you to focus your search. Your field staff will also be going out every day and glassing for trophies, and if they have a good eye on one, you'll be brought to that area to start your search. The terrain here is very dry and can fluctuate from very cold to very hot up in the mountains. The air is thin, and stalking a trophy can be very difficult, especially if you are not in good shape. For this markhor hunt, you need to be in very good shape to climb these mountains and endure the tough, arid terrain in pursuit of your trophy.

After the hunt, you will drive back to Quetta and stay overnight at the Serena.
