This 3-day Texas Dall Sheep hunt takes place on a private high-fenced ranch in West Texas near Comstock. The exclusive hunting area covers more than 2,200 acres of rolling ranch country, open grassland, brush-covered terrain, wooded draws, and natural cover that provides excellent habitat for Texas Dall Sheep and other game. The hunt is conducted 1×1 with an experienced guide and is based primarily from strategically positioned hunting blinds overlooking feeders and areas of regular animal movement.
Your guide will remain with you throughout your hunt, helping you locate and evaluate mature animals before determining which Texas Dall Sheep best matches the quality you are looking for. The package includes three full hunting days, arrival day lodging, meals, 3-star accommodations, transportation during the hunt, necessary hunt permits, field preparation, and the included Texas Dall Sheep trophy fee.
About the Texas Dall Sheep
This hunt is focused on providing you with an opportunity at a mature, healthy Texas Dall Sheep. Your guide evaluates available animals based on size, age, and overall quality before helping you determine which sheep is appropriate for harvest.
The ranch is managed to maintain healthy game populations and quality animals throughout the property. Texas Dall Sheep move through a mixture of open grassland, native brush, wooded draws, feeders, water sources, and established travel corridors, giving your guide several areas to watch for mature animals throughout the hunt.
Animal movement and weather conditions can vary throughout the day, so your guide will work with you to make the most of each hunting session and provide the best possible opportunity at a sheep that meets your expectations.
The Texas Dall Sheep Hunting Area in West Texas
The hunting ranch is located near Comstock, Texas, and encompasses more than 2,200 acres of high-fenced, professionally managed West Texas country. The area is exclusive for the hunt and has been hunted by this operation for approximately 22 years.
The terrain includes rolling ground, open grassland, brush-covered areas, wooded draws, and natural cover. Native brush and vegetation surround feeders, water sources, and regular travel corridors, creating a varied environment for Texas Dall Sheep and the other game found on the property.
The combination of open country and thicker cover creates different viewing conditions throughout the day. Managed habitat, supplemental feeding, and established water sources help support healthy game populations while strategically positioned hunting blinds provide access to areas of regular animal activity.
Texas Dall Sheep Hunting Methods
A typical hunting day begins with a continental breakfast at the lodge before heading into the field with your guide. Your guide will prepare the ranch vehicle and equipment and then take you to an assigned hunting blind before the animals become active.
You and your guide will remain in the blind together while watching the feeder and surrounding terrain for Texas Dall Sheep movement. As animals appear, your guide will evaluate them based on size, age, and overall quality. Once the appropriate animal is identified, your guide will help prepare you for the shot and make sure you are in the best position possible.
Depending on weather and animal movement, the morning hunt may continue until it is time to return to the lodge. You can relax at the ranch before lunch, which is generally served around 2:00 p.m., and then head back into the field with your guide for the afternoon hunt.
The afternoon is spent watching for the appropriate animal to present a good opportunity. After a successful harvest, your guide and ranch staff will assist with recovering and caring for the sheep before you return to the lodge for dinner and the evening.
About the Outfitter
This outfitter has hunted this West Texas property for approximately 22 years and places a strong emphasis on personal service, experienced guiding, comfortable accommodations, and providing each guest with a complete hunting experience from arrival through departure.
The operation is hands-on and works to understand what you are looking for before adapting the hunt to your individual goals. The emphasis is not only on providing an opportunity at a mature trophy, but also on hospitality, good meals, comfortable accommodations, knowledgeable guides, and an enjoyable stay at the ranch.
The 3-Star West Texas Hunting Lodge
You will stay in the ranch’s comfortable 3-star main lodge with permanent electrical power, cell phone service, and internet access. The lodge offers a combination of bunk-style accommodations and master suites, making it suitable for individual hunters, hunting partners, and groups.
One side of the lodge contains two bunk rooms, each furnished with four bunk beds. These rooms share a bathroom. On the opposite side are two master suites, each furnished with a king-size bed. The master suites share a separate bathroom located between the rooms.
Quality meals are included throughout the hunt. Between hunting sessions, you can relax at the lodge or take advantage of ranch activities including horseshoes, cornhole, axe and knife throwing, swimming, basketball, and other activities before returning to the field.
Additional Hunting Opportunities
Additional species are available on the ranch. The property has especially strong numbers of Whitetail, Axis, Blackbuck, and Aoudad, providing opportunities to add additional game depending on current availability and the applicable trophy fee schedule.
Additional species may be hunted according to current availability and the current price list.
Trophy Handling and Care
After your Texas Dall Sheep is harvested, your guide will cape and quarter the animal and pack it on ice. The ranch will help keep your ice chest supplied with ice during your stay. If you choose to keep the cape, your guide will place the cape and head in a freezer until departure.
When you are ready to leave, your guide will load the trophy and prepared animal into your vehicle. Transportation of the trophy to a taxidermist, processor, or shipping provider is not included.
Taxidermy
Taxidermy, dip & pack, trophy processing, and shipping are not included. The outfitter can recommend a taxidermist if you would like assistance arranging these services, but the ranch is not affiliated with the recommended provider.
Getting to West Texas
The nearest major airport is San Antonio. You will typically arrive at the ranch by personal vehicle or rental car. Airport pick-up, drop-off, and road transfer can be arranged for $300. No charter flights are required.
Arrival day lodging is included. Lodging after the final hunting day is not included and may be added for $250. Separate before- or after-hunt accommodations are not otherwise required as part of the package.
The Texas Dall Sheep Hunting Season
This Texas Dall Sheep hunt is available year-round from January through December.
The Best Time to Hunt
The outfitter recommends October through May as the preferred period for this hunt.
Recommended Firearms and Rental Rifles
The outfitter recommends a .243 Winchester as the minimum caliber for this hunt.
Rental rifles are available in 6.5 Creedmoor and .308 Winchester.
Rifle rental is $100 total, and ammunition is $4 per bullet. Hunters planning to rent a firearm should advise the booking agent in advance so the appropriate rifle and ammunition can be arranged.
Deposit Policy
A 50% deposit is required to book this hunt. The remaining balance is due directly to the outfitter 30 days before the hunt begins. Accepted payment methods include cash, check, Zelle, and cashier’s check.
Cancellation Policy
Deposits and final payments are non-refundable unless the canceling client finds a replacement hunter. If the outfitter must find a replacement hunter, a $1,000 rebooking fee plus any discount required to book the replacement hunter will be deducted from the original client’s deposit. Any remaining balance will then be transferred to another hunt date. A $150 fee is payable directly to the booking agent for any rescheduled hunt. Hunts moved to a subsequent year will be subject to that year's pricing.
If there is no harvest as a result of “no opportunity” — such as weather conditions, the booked type or class of animal not being seen, or no animals being seen — you may be offered the opportunity to book a re-hunt starting at $595 per hunter to cover lodging and meals.
EXCLUSIONS: Texas hunting license, beer, wine, and spirits, airport pick-up/drop-off and road transfer, final hunting day overnight lodging, rifle rental, ammunition, trophy transportation to a taxidermist or processor, dip & pack processing, taxidermy, trophy shipping, transportation to the ranch, gratuities, and personal expenses.
