This premium Anatolian red stag hunt offers the opportunity to pursue one of the largest and most impressive red stag subspecies in the world. Conducted in Turkey’s Black Sea region across large, exclusive concessions, this hunt is ideal for hunters seeking a true free-range experience with exceptional trophy quality and no size limits.

The Red Stag Hunting Area / Terrain

The hunt takes place in the Black Sea Region of Turkey, including areas around Tokat, Sinop, Samsun, Çorum, and Kastamonu. This region provides excellent habitat for red stag, with a combination of dense forest and open ground.

The terrain consists of rolling hills and mountains ranging from approximately 800 to 1,800 meters in elevation. The area is covered in dense deciduous forests of oak, beech, and pine, with open meadows and valleys that allow for glassing and stalking opportunities. Moderate physical fitness is required to navigate the terrain.

The hunting concession spans over 800,000 hectares and is exclusively managed, ensuring a true free-range hunting experience.

About the Anatolian Red Stag

The Anatolian red stag, also known as the Maral, is one of the largest red stag subspecies in the world. Mature stags often exceed 300 kg in body weight and are known for their heavy, dark antlers.

Trophies typically range from 9 kg to over 14 kg, placing many animals in the gold medal class. These stags are highly sought after due to their size, genetics, and the overall quality found within this region.

The Red Stag Hunting Experience

This hunt is conducted using spot-and-stalk methods, with early mornings and late evenings focused on locating and approaching mature stags. During the rut, hunters will begin well before sunrise to listen for the roar and locate dominant animals.

Once a stag is located, the hunt is conducted on foot, using terrain and cover to close the distance. Midday is typically spent resting at the lodge, with hunting resuming in the late afternoon as stags begin to move again.

During the rut period, the hunt is highly vocal and active, while later season hunts focus more on winter stalking patterns. Shots are typically taken across valleys at moderate to longer distances, requiring steady shooting positions and quality optics.

The Red Stag Outfitter

This outfitter has been conducting professional hunts in Turkey for over 20 years and operates exclusively within the country. They manage large, prime concessions in the Black Sea region and specialize in red stag and wild boar hunting.

Their team works these areas year-round, maintaining detailed knowledge of stag movement, rut activity, and seasonal patterns. As direct concession holders, they offer a transparent hunting structure with no trophy size limitations, allowing hunters to take the best animal available without additional fees.

All hunts are conducted 1×1, ensuring personalized guiding and focused attention throughout the experience.

Travel for the Red Stag Hunt

You will arrive at Samsun (SZF), Sinop (NOP), or Ankara (ESB), depending on the hunting area.

Upon arrival, you will be met by the outfitter and transferred by road to your lodge. Travel times typically range from 3 to 4 hours, depending on the location.

All ground transportation during the hunt is included, and no charter flights are required.

The Red Stag Hunting Accommodations

You will stay in comfortable 4-star hotels or private hunting lodges located near the hunting areas. Rooms feature en-suite bathrooms, permanent heating, reliable electricity, and internet access.

These accommodations are selected to provide both comfort and convenience, with close proximity to the hunting grounds to minimize travel time. After each day’s hunt, you will return to a relaxed setting with meals prepared daily, offering a comfortable place to unwind and prepare for the next outing.

The Red Stag Hunting Season

The red stag season runs from September 15 through January 31. The best time to hunt is from late September through mid-October during the rut, when stags are most vocal and active. November through January offers excellent winter stalking opportunities.

Recommended Firearms and Shooting Distances

Recommended calibers include .300 Win Mag, 7mm Rem Mag, .30-06, and .338 Lapua. These calibers are well-suited for longer-range shooting in mountainous terrain.

Typical shooting distances range from 150 to 350 meters, often across valleys or open terrain.

This outfitter does not offer rental rifles, so hunters must bring their own firearms. All import permits will be handled by the outfitter.

Packing List

A detailed packing list will be provided to the client after the hunt is booked.

Red Stag Trophy Handling

After harvest, field preparation is completed in camp, including skinning and boiling of the skull. The trophy is then transferred to a government-licensed taxidermy and shipping agent for veterinary clearance and export processing.

Unlike smaller game, red stag trophies must be shipped via cargo. Delivery to the shipping agent occurs shortly after the hunt, and final shipment to the client typically takes between 1 and 6 months, depending on international customs and logistics.

Insurance

Travel and medical insurance are recommended for all international hunts.

Deposit Policy

A 50% deposit of the package price is required to secure the hunt. The remaining balance is due in cash upon arrival at camp.

Cancellation Policy

Deposits are non-refundable. Hunt dates may be rescheduled if notice is provided at least 90 days prior to the start date.

Exclusions: International airfare, visa costs, dip and pack, taxidermy, shipping of trophies, gratuities, personal expenses, and any additional services not listed above.
