The Moose Hunting Area and Terrain:

The Russian moose hunting will take place on 370,000 acres that are exclusively hunted by this outfitter. The best place to hunt Kamchatka Moose is on the valley floors, where streams, rivers, and wet spots stay exposed year-round from the thermal heat produced by the earth. This thermal warmth allows green grasses and other plants to grow on these valley floors even during the coldest winter months. Since this hunt takes place in November and December, much of the vegetation will be slightly matted down by the snow and the leaves from the trees will have fallen, allowing you to see deep into the rolling hills to spot a moose. The snow depth will range from 1-3 feet on average, allowing for the use of land bridges that provide access to the isolated and remote moose regions of Kamchatka.

Russian Moose Hunting Seasons:

The best time to hunt Kamchatka moose is in the winter. The season opens November 1st and closes December 15th.

About the Russia Moose Outfitter:

This outfitter has over 20 years of experience guiding hunters throughout Russia and Central Asia. He has personally guided dozens of clients to the trophies of a lifetime. The outfitter has formed close relationships with local chiefs and gamekeepers in their hunting areas, keeping him in the loop of where the areas having the highest moose density are and where the most mature moose trophies can be taken. For this hunt, the hunting areas have been carefully chosen for their probability of producing large trophy moose. The camp locations for this hunt will be chosen to allow for quick and easy access to the best hunting areas.

Russian Moose Lodge and Accommodations:

The moose hunting lodge is situated in the Russian tundra and accessible by ATV. You will be staying in a wood cabin equipped with a stove for heat. Electrical power is provided by the generator onsite. Cell phone service is available in camp. There is no internet service available in this camp.

A Typical Moose Hunting Day

Each hunting day will start with a 6 AM breakfast with your guide. During breakfast, you and your guide will talk about the plan for that day, based on chats with locals about which areas have the most recent tracks and the highest chance of successfully locating a trophy Kamchatka Moose. Once you and your guide hash out the game plan, you’ll load up in a sled being pulled by the guide’s snowmobile. Warm clothing is a must for this portion of your hunt. Once some fresh moose tracks are located, you’ll be traveling across the snow, crossing rivers and streams, and traveling an average of 15-30 km per hour trying to catch up to that moose. Lunch is served in the field and is prepared to arrive back at camp around dusk to dark each day after hours of tracking and searching for the Russian moose of a lifetime.

Moose Trophy Care and Shipping:

Stolker Trophy Co. in Moscow is used for the taxidermy and dip and pack of the animals. Field preparation of the trophies is done by salting the hides and boiling the skull. It takes 10-20 days from this point for the trophies to be delivered to Stolker Trophy Co. They will be delivered by plane to Stolker Trophy Co .in Moscow. The hunter is responsible for all shipping charges of the trophies from the camp to Stolker Trophy Co, and all expenses afterward.

Rental Rifle:

The available rifle is a Remington Model 700 chambered in 300 Win Mag, topped with a Zeiss Diavari-Z 2.5-10 x 48 scope. Rifle rental cost is $400 for the entire hunt and ammunition cost is $3 per round.

If bringing your own rifle, the recommended calibers for hunting Kamchatka Moose in Russia are 300 Win Mag, 7mm Remington Mag, and 375 H&H.

Getting There:

You will first fly into Moscow and then transfer to a domestic flight. If bringing your own rifle, this is where the paperwork and temporary import approval and assistance will take place. Depending on the time of your arrival and the time of your domestic flight, you will either get directly on a plane to Petropavlovsk or spend the night in Moscow to catch a flight the next day. Upon arriving in Petropavlovsk you will be met by the outfitter and immediately begin your trip to camp, or if it is too late to reach camp the same day, you will spend the night at a hotel in town and leave the next morning on a 3 ½ hour drive by car followed up by a 2-hour ATV ride across the Russian tundra to camp.
